Graceland - Paul Simon
"This is the story of how we begin to remember"....in 1986 with Apartheid still a South African reality Paul Simon fused his skills for lyrics and melody with the Mbaqanga music of South Africa and American Roots and brought it all together in the enormously successful Graceland. The Album showcases the talents of Black South Africans such as Ladysmith Black Mambozo, introducing them to global audiences and also features vocals from Linda Ronstadt (Under African Skies) The Evelry Brothers (Graceland) and Los Lobos (All Around The World or The Myth Of Fingerprints). Graceland quickly gained recognition as an instant classic. It won't be hard to pick tracks to play from this album on Thursday and expect to hear more than four...."there are angels in the architecture"

This is one of those albums that most people deny they like. But yet when you hear it you will more than likely say the opposite (with the exception of Nicknameless 1...lol) But for me it is the unique sound of Bakithi Kumalo and his amazing Bass guitar that caps this album. Plus with Simon bringing in the haunting tones of the South African backing singers, and all in all I'd say yet another good choice......you'll be losing the run of yourself soon Sarah..lol
I think we could have played the whole album, it's that good. I have to say I'm not crazy about You Can Call Me Al, though, maybe it's just got too much airplay and I'm sick of it? Graceland (which we didn't play!!) is probably the stand out track for me.
You're right about that Bass Player!
